My Absolute Favorite GEG Album June 9, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my absolute favorite Grey Eye Glances album, as each song contains accessible lyrics and catchy tunes that convey a gamut of emotions. There are more melancholy songs such as "Snow" and "Days to Dust," but, at the same time, there are also upbeat songs such as "Halfway Back" and "Something To Live For". This is one of those albums that has a lot of substance and power to it. You empathize and sing along when you hear these songs--all the way to the end. For fans of this group, this is one of those albums that you put in a cd, hit repeat, and play for hours. If you have never heard Grey Eye Glances before, start with this album. Great stuff!
Special Treat on a Gloomy Morning May 20, 2006 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I spent a gloomy morning scouring for new songs to add to my music collection. But some reason nothing resonated with me. Then I landed on an odd sounding New Jersey group "Grey Eye Glances." Upon investigation I learned two things:
1. Grey Eye Glances' name is cribbed from an Edgar Allen Poe poem
2. This is one terrific CD!
I ordered the album and my gloomy morning became much brighter.
Always a Favorite May 25, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been a fan of GEG since the days they were known as Sojourn. I fondly remember seeing them at various venues around Philly... the Tin Angel being a favorite, and even the Borders shows! Yes... I love these guys. And this is far and away their best album. I remember looking forward to its release with almost unbearable anticipation. I'd been seeing them live for a long time, and really enjoyed their two self-released CDs. Listening to Eventide/The Passing of the Evening live was the highlight of every concert. But when this album was released, I was a bit surprised. They'd redone some songs from Further On...! And frankly, the new versions weren't as good! (Please get thee a copy of Further On... and listen to the "originals," especially "Something to Live For.") Even so, this was a very welcome album, and one they have yet to match. Yes, Painted Pictures was quite good. A Little Voodoo... well, not as good. Too quirky for me to actually love it, but I do like it. One thing that has always surprised me is the frequent comparison to October Project. I don't see much of a correlation, myself. I think they're closer to Fleetwood Mac than to October Project. But even more to the point: Why make comparisons at all? GEG is GEG. And that's not just a good thing... that's a great thing.
Can't stop listening December 31, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm hooked. Addicted. I hum it all day long. I bought this as a die hard October Project fan looking for something new. It's now a toss up between OP and GEG. The song Chills stays in my head all day. It's haunting, as is Angel and There. The CD starts off with Hard which has you you dancing in your seat in the car. The rest just sucks you in. I love the richness of Nobels voice and the lyrics that stop and make you think. It's my new favorite CD and I just can't stop playing it!
An escape from life's daily grind! January 20, 2004 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
If I were stranded on an island with only one CD to listen to, Eventide would without a doubt be my pick. There is not a song on the disc that does not reach out, softly wrap around your heart, and pull you into it's story. Ballads such as "There," "Chills," "Snow," and "Angel" or uptempo "Hard," "Something to Live For," and "In the Company of You" all consist of soul searching, artful lyrics. Add to the lyrics the all encompassing, stirring vocals of lead singer Jennifer Nobel and the experience is complete. Overall, Eventide is an oasis in the desert of the daily grind. Essential.
