Mammaries may be beautiful, and yet... January 26, 2004

You can't judge or a book (or a CD) by it's cover. If you could this one would be tops, because this is just a stunning babe up front here. Unfortunately, after you catch your breath and pop this one open you'll find lots of bogus synthesized pseudo-surf garbage. I think the folks who put this one out must have realized they needed some help selling this one. Hence the babe.
"Surf Crazy" does have a few good moments. Tunes like "Latinia" by the Sentinals, "Surfin Tragedy" by Bob Vaught and "Surf Bird" by The Breakers keep it from being a complete bust, even though the cover is plenty busty! Still, there are much more cost-effective ways of getting these songs. Check out the absolutely top-notch Surf compilations "Big Surf" and "World of Surf Music" for example. With just these two CD's you get a large chunk of the best surf tunes ever.
When you compare the best with this CD, you'd almost have to be "crazy" to pick this one up...well, at least girl crazy.
So, if you are "strapped" for cash don't drop two handfuls on this. In rating "Surf Crazy" I won't go for the the juggular. I fully figure there are some utterly worse Surf CDs hanging out. The music doesn't stack up, but two pointers for the wonderful art.
