Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com
A 1996 Academy Award nominee for Best Dramatic Score, Braveheart is one of composer James (Titanic) Horner's most accomplished works. Utilizing the full range of the London Symphony Orchestra, the Choristers of Westminster Abbey, and a small ensemble of traditional folk instrumentalists, Horner largely eschews the bombast typical of the genre and cuts a more emotionally complex--and satisfying--musical course through this 14th-century tale of betrayal and rebellion. This album presents ample evidence of why Horner is currently at the peak of his profession. --Jerry McCulley

1 out of 5 stars Product damaged BEFORE shipped   November 23, 2008

This was my first--and last--purchase from Amazon.com.

I got wonderful turn-around time on my order of a CD.

Sadly, they shipped a product that was damaged before they processed my order. The CD case was severely cracked with pieces missing. The missing pieces were not inside the shrink-wrapped packaging which lets me know it was damaged prior to packaging, and they shipped it anyway.

There was no info on what to do if an order was damaged or how to return an item.

I am a techno-dummy and am not very computer savvy, but I do know this much. I won't order anything direct-order fulfilled by Amazon.com again.

4 out of 5 stars One of James Horner's more epic works   November 6, 2008
What I love most about the film "Braveheart" is not only the battle scenes, but the music as well. I personally believe that this score is far grander than "Titanic" and "Troy". The musical themes are so varied and creative, that the score really shines here, though the themes do get a bit tiresome when it gets closer to the end. The Scottish bagpipes make it all the more memorable ("A Gift of a Thistle" and "Main Title") and the brass and percussion for the battle sequences give more tension ("The Battle of Stirling" and "Falkirk"). "The Secret Wedding" and "For the Love of a Princess" have the perfect romantic feel. "The Princess pleads for Wallace's Life" is lyrical and sounds very otherworldly. "End Credits" isn't really special, but the rest of the soundtrack is. Horner has done a wonderful job with Mel Gibson's "Braveheart".

5 out of 5 stars Mr. Horner's greatest achievement..   March 2, 2008
This is THE best of Mr. Horner's score! He captured the heart and soul of the film and what the film was about. It was not a usual epic film score. It was a score written and based upon the heart of William Wallace and the courage of the Scots. There was not a track I didn't like. Every minute of it is just enrapturing and even addictive.
Even if you don't like Mr. Horner, this score can be enjoyed. It is so original and inspirational. You MUST own this music!
