One of those truly "great" finds! April 10, 2008 I stumbled upon this CD and just had to take a chance on it. Almost every cut is very, very good! Excellent overall is how I can best describe it. A very nice surprise. If you like older show tunes done in the style of big theatre - this one is for you. Lots of fun and very enjoyable listening. No disappointment here!
Greatest Surprise compilation perhaps of all time! December 23, 2003 I am a HUGE musical theatre fan - constantly on the look-out for interesting new releases of lesser known composers. This is perhaps the best surprise I've ever found. When I bought it, I didn't realize that the music was so old- and that these writers had also done 'Kismet' and 'Song of Norway' and a variety of others. I generally tend to like and relate better to newer theatre music - but this is truly the exception. Just about every song on this CD has become my 'new' favorite at some point in the last 6 months. There's an ongoing travel theme in the song selection, and honestly, by the time I finish the CD, I get the same feeling I have when I'm walking through and airport - strangely transported and OVER excited. It's fantastic music - amazing selection of songs - a REAL surprise! You'll feel like you've stolen something!
Sensational Broadway Salwarts Sing Gems! January 13, 1999 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I got this one for Christmas! This suprise compilations disc has received rave reviews from Playbill On Line, Tonys On Line and various other publications. It features a cast of Broadway notables and newcomers including Karen Akers, Lucie Arnaz, Joan Barber, director/choreographer Jeff Calhoun (in his recording debut), Andrew Driscoll, Diane J. Findlay,David Green, Geoffrey Holder,Douglas Holmes, Melinda Hopkins, Simon Jones, Judy Kaye, Marcia Lewis,Sean Lough, Donna Lee Marshall, Kathi Moss, Karen Murphy, Ashley Rose Orr, Rob Sutton, and Walter Willison (who also conceived and produced this recording)singing never before recorded songs from MGM and Copacabana Revues, GRAND HOTEL, et cetera., written by Robert Wright & George Forrest (who wrote GRAND HOTEL, KISMET, SONG OF NORWAY, etc.). Great Orchestrations by Fred Barton, 26 songs ranging from beautiful lush ballads to hilarious comedy numbers, all put together as a "concept-revue" on CD;a one of a kind and MUST-HAVE recording for all musical theatre fans as well as for anyone who likes GREAT SINGERS and GREAT SONGS!
