Great 60's Pop September 11, 2008 This is a great collection of one of the better pop groups of the 60s. Although Jay Traynor was the voice of the group for their first big hit, She Cried, I really love the soaring multi-octave voice of Jay Black and the string of hits that continued unabated when he assumed the role of lead singer.
Okay maybe I was a little harsh September 4, 2008 Originally I gave this one star, but I think two is more reasonable as there are some decent moments on here. Still, I got this cd because I loved their version of "This Magic Moment" so I was very disappointed that nothing else on here grabbed nearly as much. At one point in the liner notes Jay Traynor says how he didn't understand why their version of "This Magic Moment" ranked higher than The Drifters, and after listening to this cd I would agree that The Drifters were a much better group. While I was disappointed, this guy can sing alright and I am giving one more star because I love their version of "This Magic Moment".
Good, but too much filler August 16, 2008 As a casual fan of this group, one who never bought their records but liked to hear them on radio during their hit years, only about half of the songs on this album are what I bought it for. But the price is right and I can program my changer to play only the biggest hits. Good quality transfers and a treasure trove for the truest fans of Jay and the Americans, though.
All the songs that made Jay and The Americans so GREAT! August 4, 2008 Looked all over for this music Amazons got the Best. Was like hearing them live all over again, was so lucky to catch them at the Chevorolet Theater in Wallingford What a Great preformance. Thankyou Amazon.com Mary Larkin
Come a little bit closer February 15, 2008 Very good to hear these songs again. I was priveledged to see Jay Black at a recent concert. He performed "Cara Mia" hitting each and every note without modification. A wonderful man.
