Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com
Mellow are an ambient Parisian trio who infuse their futuristic spaciness with subtle grooves and samples, much like fellow Frenchmen Air. Their laid-back CQ twists this modernity with a retro French sound, creating the sonic accompaniment to a swinging-1960s mod thriller rife with intrigue and desire. Spooky, zooming, space-alien synths ("Multithing"), honeyed warm trumpets ("I Love You"), and pastoral acoustic guitar ("Airplane") conjure up woozy psychedelia, while other tracks sound like the culmination of an intense spy mission ("CQ Car Chase") or jazz-lounge jamming ("Absolute Free"). But hints of Moon Safari's pulsating electronic beats and burbling loops add modern flourishes to the proceedings, even as go-go-boot-stomping slices of garage rock from Claude Francois and Jacques Dutronc add vintage spice. Yet CQ's veering from, well, the mellow to the upbeat is seamless and never forced. Better yet, Mellow's textured instrumentals sound authentically late-'60s and eschew the explosive campiness of Austin Powers. An unqualified cohesive cinematic gem. --Annie Zaleski

Album Description
The neo-psychdelic songs and score to the soundtrack were composed and performed by the French band Mellow, who came from the same music stable as fellow Parisians Air. The other cuts from the album include classic 60's French pop hits from Claude Francois and Jacques as well as a pair of funky 60's library music pieces. 2002.

5 out of 5 stars great soundtrack   November 23, 2005
this album has some quality tunes and i recommend it to anyone into the late 60s style...the one thing however is that some songs are too short....and having a total length of just over 50 minutes i am sure an extra few minutes on some of the songs would not hurt!

If you have any taste at all, you won't be disappointed. Nay, you'll find your new best friend in the CQ soundtrack. Every track coats the ears with milk and honey, honey.

The movie was an artistic bore, but at least it introduced me to Mellow! I love this album- 60's campy, spacy, downbeat and french all rolled into one- what more could you ask for? I used to think Air's 'Moon Safari' was great, but this cd kicks it up a few notches. Get it Now!

5 out of 5 stars i love you...   May 21, 2003

my vote for best film and soundtrack of 2002 (though the todd haynes masterpiece film, "far from heaven," and soundtrack come very closely behind). can't say i had ever heard of mellow before seeing "cq" and may never buy anything else from them ever again, but this soundtrack is perfect. as the film is a representation of a film being made in 1969 about 2000, the soundtrack represents a band from 1969 trying to sound like music in 2000. by the way, my kudos go out to the "cq" dvd and website, which are very easily the best of 2002 also. i love you. i love you. i love you.
