Album Description
Two CD 2008 release by Judas Priest. In the realm of Heavy Metal, there has never been a double disc concept album that has managed to balance a thought-provoking storyline with metallic thunder. Long in the works, Nostradamus takes epic storytelling to a whole new level, as it recounts the life of this mysterious, world-known 16th Century French prophet. Most bands of this high stature would be happy to play it safe. But not Judas Priest, who continue to take chances and break new ground. No other rock band could have pulled off such a grand statement, and Judas Priest have raised the bar once more with Nostradamus. 23 tracks.

5 out of 5 stars Nostradamus jams!   November 21, 2008
This is the best work from JP since Hell Bent for Leather. Been a Priest fan from the start. This is a must have. This CD rocks start from finish. Pure JP - screaming and mesmerizing Halford with the typical jammimg riffs by Tipton/Downing. A little bit of everything in this. Not a bad song in the 2 disc set. Great change-ups. Rock opera at its best. Off the chart lyrics. These guys just keep on getting better. My favorite CD in years!

4 out of 5 stars Intersting Concept release from one of metal's most hallowed acts   November 8, 2008
Reviews have been very divided on the release of Priest's newest album, there first concept release,Nostradumus.
Many criticize it for it's lack of anthems and accesibility.
Truth is,it's just what it SHOULD be....a deep concept album.
The band returns somewhat to there 70s roots with this one, with much more complex guitar work and the use of keyboards to maximize the emotional impact of several songs.
It's a good story, but quite a long listen, sort of a throw back to the classic idea of the concept record.
Not all the writing is top notch, but when it works,it works well.
Standouts are probally War,Prophecy and Future of Mankind(excellent soloing in this one).
The song "Alone" was Priest's clever way of adding an anthem to metalheads, for clearly the lyrics echo that sentiment.
Overall,a good release, ceratinly a must for Priest fans, and good enough to be an album of the year contender.
Go in with an open mind, and you may enjoy the journey that lies ahead on "Nostradamus".

3 out of 5 stars Judas Priest meets Trans-Siberian Orchestra   November 5, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

I'll keep it short:

The music is well done and very professional (mixed well), however unless you like rock opera-ish show music or the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, this may not be for you. (Lizzy Borden did it better years ago with Master of Diguise).

It is good for what it is thus the 3 stars, but not what I expected or really would have wanted. I can't fault them for trying new things. The lyrics do leave a lot to be desired, too. This one is actually better when Rob isn't singing, which is unfortunate.

4 out of 5 stars Great Concept Priest   October 24, 2008
Judas Priest's first foray into Concept albums is a great compilation of songs for the new millenium.

3 out of 5 stars CLASSICAL METAL   October 22, 2008
I will have to admit i did not know what to think when i first heard it i was a little disappointed....... However after a few more listens i can really appreciate it . It certainly grows on you and its One fantastic record . Not my favourite, Painkiller is still the ultimate. There are only a handful of metal acts that could release a recording like this and for it too sound respectable. I feel Judas Priest took a gamble releasing Nostradamus As its so different to the usual stuff however it has paid off and will give them more scope in the future....... Its something that they had to do. I will really look forward to their next release
