Another re-tread of Chet August 7, 2008 This commentary is not a criticism of the quality of the recordings in this set. It is rather a clarification for the Chet Atkins collector. I have been collecting Chet since 1955 and have nearly all of his albums to date. Including the re-compilations of his music, I presently have 170 albums, some of which I've converted into non-existant CD versions so they're now all in CD format. As another reviewer has noted, there are often quite a view surprises on the re-issued and compilation albums, as Chet was fond of re-recording his own tunes when he thought he could improve on a take. You'll notice these nuances if you bought the original LP versions and then buy a new copy of that same title and compare the tracks.
All except 3 of the tracks in this compilation of Chet Atkins can be found in the JSP Records JSP7794E 2007 CD Box Set "Chet Atkins: The Early Years 1946-1957". "Jingle Bells", "Christmas Carols", and "Tennessee Polka" are available from the 7-disk imported boxed set "Mr. Guitar: The Complete Recordings 1955-1960"(November 15, 2004)by the Bear Family. This set is considered by many Chet fans to be his defining period in his music and is quite excellent, though very pricey. The 11 albums by Chet during period ('55-'60)are: "Stringin' Along With Chet Atkins", "A Session With Chet Atkins", "Chet Atkins In Three Dimensions","Finger-Style Guitar", "Hi-Fi In Focus", "Chet Atkins At Home", "Chet Atkins In Hollywood", "Hum And Strum Along With Chet Atkins", "Mr. Guitar", "Teensville", and "The Other Chet Atkins". Since Chet Atkins died, many companies (especially those abroad) have been chopping up his catalog of tracks and slapping a new name on them to cash-in on his music. The pleasant exception to this is the re-issue of his albums with "...Plus" added to the title ending, such as: "Chet Atkins At Home...Plus". Also, the "Complete Recordings" set referenced in this review introduce several "new" tunes unavailable elsewhere. These CDs appear to be an honest attempt at adding very rare tracks to the original album titles and I heartily recommend those.

A comprehensive collection (on 3CDs) of Chet's 1947/55 recordings. Many tracks on other recordings, but a few unique and less heard tracks. Great musical value.
