Three years ago, a 13-year old Taylor Swift set out to be a star and moved from Reading, Pennsylvania, to Nashville. By 14, she had a publishing deal, and by 15, a recording contract. In these days of Bianca Ryan (and before her, Tanya Tucker and LeAnn Rimes), many are called, but few are chosen. Swift, it appears, is one of the chosen ones. Her vocal talent is modest, though sweetly affecting, her style seemingly influenced by the radio hits of early Sheryl Crow and Michelle Branch, and perhaps Cyndi Thomson. And at times, her youthfulness shows--she encoded messages in the lyrics of her CD booklet, starting with the name of the boy who cheated on her from "Should've Said No" (the album's strongest offering). But in writing or co-writing all 11 songs on this debut, Swift demonstrates remarkable maturity, particularly in crafting a hooky, radio-ready chorus. Though she sounds ridiculous looking back from the perspective of an 87-year old woman on "Mary's Song," to her credit she mostly writes about what she knows--unrequited high-school crushes ("Teardrops on My Guitar"), teenage angst ("Tied Together with a Smile"), and complete immersion in starry-eyed romance (her breakout hit "Tim McGraw"). Swift has such wistful charm and tunefulness that only a curmudgeon could dismiss her, and in fact, more than 60,000 fans lined up to grab this CD the first month of release. No wonder Rascal Flatts and George Strait added her to their tours. Look out, Carrie Underwood--there's a new kid in town. --Alanna Nash

Album Description
Taylor Swift has been enhanced by the addition of 3 brand new tracks ("I'm Only Me When I'm With You", "Invisible", "A Perfectly Good Heart") and a pop version of the hit single "Teardrops On My Guitar"

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Talent and Open Heart Made this CD   October 15, 2008
To all who have not purchased this CD, please do. I am a 29 year old mother of three, and I limit the music my girls listen to. (We do not do the Hannah Montanan thing) I purchased this CD for my 5 1/2 year old who thinks Taylor is beautiful and loves to here her sing. This is a girl with incredible talent, she is only 18 and she had dedicated her life to music, not for the glory but for the love. You hear and see that in her music. Just because she can not hit those "high" notes or sing like past musicians does not make her any less of an artist. She is the type of artist "she" is, no other type. Leave her alone and let her mature more and you will see, she is here to stay. She has shown more talent in the past few years than BIG names have shown their entire career. It is also pretty amazing she wrote and co wrote all of her the songs on this album and on her new album. Check the back of your CD's and see how often that happens. Her new song Love Story is another example of what to expect from her (she also wrote it). I give it 10 stars. I have already preordered the CD through Amazon. Every one is entitled to their opinion; mine is buy the CD and judge for yourself. You can check out her videos at CMT videos online.

I'm amazed this young lady wrote all her own songs, really good songs at that. this is a great cd for all country and pop lovers. her songs can really relate to real life situations and her vocals are excellent.

Taylor Swift is so sweet and innocent. I love listening to her. She is my 7 year old grandchild's favorite. She knows all the words to all of her songs and her inspiration is to be Taylor Swift!
