The artist behind Facing Future, the top-selling Hawaiian album of all time, the late Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole was possessed of a voice so sweet, so tender, and so lovely that it continues to deeply stir those who hear it long after he died. Lovingly assembled and notated by producer Jon de Mello, Alone in IZ World is comprised of both alternate versions of Kamakawio'ole's best-loved songs as well as tracks never before heard by the public. The latter category includes versions of "Hanohano No Na Cowboy," the playfully incomplete opening on "Mona Lisa," and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," on which IZ takes a rare turn at harmonizing with himself. In light of his premature passing, devastatingly beautiful alternate cuts of "Starting All Over Again" and "In This Life" are especially poignant. And "Over the Rainbow"--IZ's renditions were heard in Meet Joe Black and Finding Forrester--may never again sound so pure. --Paige La Grone

I had not heard of this artist until he was gone. His voice is just incredible and his music is wonderfully evocative of the Hawaiian soul.

This music is good for the soul. How sad that this great talent is no longer with us but what a legacy he left.

4 out of 5 stars Brudda Iz CD   July 21, 2008
A really nice, upbeat CD. My first purchase of Iz music. His rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow is a real mellow delight.

If the music doesn't put love into your heart, then maybe this gentle giant can make you only wish like he did. This is by far, on of his best collections ever. I loved it and listen to each and every day. Sure am going to miss this man.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet Soul of Hawaii   May 10, 2008
"Over the Rainbow" is worth the price of the album because it is simply priceless. I smiled in tears when I first heard it in Europe on the Connery film "Finding Forrester". The big teddy bear on his "uke" reaching the world in its more urgent time of need ...with a remake, ha! Your sweet soul shines from heaven Izzy, like the child's gift of pure innocence that became the eastern star. Ke Aloha ai no hoana ke akua i, kana hele hele. Meke aloha pumehana "ipo". -Pila
