A useful replacement for an out-of-print series. September 24, 2008 (This is a copy of a review I posted on the 1946 CD of this series, but applies identically to this one.)
There used to be a series by ASV-Living Era of hits of various years, which is no longer available because the company was merged into another, and the new owner withdrew the Living Era series. This series, by Dynamic, fills the gap that was left by the withdrawal of the earlier series.
There are 25 songs to a CD, approximately the same as on the ASV-Living Era series, and though there are no liner notes (as opposed to the very good notes that ASV-Living Era supplied) the price is so much cheaper that it makes up for this. These CDs are VERY affordable.
The choice of songs is slightly different from those on the ASV CDs, so one could see getting both (though there is a lot of overlap, it is true; however, that is to be expected). And considering the price, it's a good buy.
I'd certainly recommend this series, if you are interested in the music of the 1940s and early 1950s.

I bought it as an anniversary gift for a couple married in 1948 and they loved it. Jere Moore
A Fun CD July 8, 2008 The war was over, spirits were up, and you can hear it in the songs from that era. The sound is better here than on others in this Hit Parade series. Nat, Bing, and Dinah come through loud and clear. A good choice for your music library.
Hit Parade 1948 June 5, 2008 This is the year I was born but some of the songs sound very familiar through the years of listening to them with my parents. Well worth the money.

If you're into the pace and style of the era then this is one for your collection. Great tunes by the original artists. It doesn't get any better.
