Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
Lil Mama's Jive Records debut, Voice Of The Young People explores the mindset of a young woman who is truly wise beyond her years. She has been in and out of various recording studios in New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Miami and has worked with famed producers like Swizz Beatz and Scott Storch. Her debut album, Voice Of The Young People features a wide range of musical and topical issues. Lil Mama's first commercial hit "Lip Gloss" has quickly become a celebratory anthem for girls of all ages. Somber songs like "L.I.F.E." explore a foster child's journey and the hardships of a pregnant teenager while on "Broken Pieces" Lil Mama sings about a lost lover over a whining electric guitar rift. When not reflecting on her past heartache, the multi-talented triple threat proves she can throw down with the best of them. On "Shawty Get Loose" she teams up with label-mates Chris Brown and T-Pain for an up-tempo brag fest where Mama slices down the competition. "G-Slide (Tour Bus)" keeps the party going as Lil Mama raps over a Dirty South inspired 808 track while instructing her listeners how to do her dance. "What It Is (Strike A Pose)" features T-Pain and is a testament to Mama's wide ranging talent.

5 out of 5 stars Lil Mama is truly the Voice of the Young People!   September 8, 2008
VYP is an excellent cd and definitely worth buying. What I love about the cd is that it gets deep and theres also fun songs too. L.I.F.E. is the best song on the album. Lil Mama always keeps it real. She is so talented and is a very positive role model. She puts her heart and soul into her music and it shows when you listen to this album. She doesnt even use explicit lyrics and its still hot! My favorites on the album are L.I.F.E., shawty get loose, broken pieces, college, swim, make it hot, what it is, lip gloss, and one hit wonder. The whole cd is fiyah so cop it immediately!

1 out of 5 stars Definitely not the voice of the young people   August 2, 2008

This little bubble gum rapper tries too hard to rap "hardcore" and she only just turned 18. I do not get excited when I see Lil Mama, do not buy. Just sample the CD on amazons digital version, and you will agree its a bad album.

I love this album! I have to say that there is not one song on this album that I did not like or have to repeatedly skip over. She's not just the Lipgloss girl, she's the Voice of The Young People. The album is very lyrical and she really expresses herself through this album. It's clean, no cursing at all, making this a good CD for all ages. All in all I highly recommend this album.

1 out of 5 stars Lil Mama is a no-talent   August 1, 2008

I know a NO-TALENT B*tch when I see and hear one... she is only a rap "artist" because HER DADDY OWNS THE RECORD LABEL FAMILIAR FACES --she joined her father's label, she traveled to Atlanta in 2006 to work exclusively with producer James "Groove" Chambers, who helped construct the "Lip Gloss" single. Her Daddy set it all up for her. SHE HAS NO TALENT!!!!
