Album Description Deluxe 2008 release by Judas Priest. In the realm of Heavy Metal, there has never been a double disc concept album that has managed to balance a thought-provoking storyline with metallic thunder. Long in the works, Nostradamus takes epic storytelling to a whole new level, as it recounts the life of this mysterious, world-known 16th Century French prophet. Most bands of this high stature would be happy to play it safe. But not Judas Priest, who continue to take chances and break new ground. No other rock band could have pulled off such a grand statement, and Judas Priest have raised the bar once more with Nostradamus.

An epic Work : Masterful in all Respects September 21, 2008 The Latest work by JUDAS PRIEST is superb in terms of the vocals, the music, and the packaging. It is clearly a concept album that in my view has only one similar album that you can compare it with, which was done by a band in a different genre ( YES, the album I have in mind is TALES FROM TOPOGRAPHIC OCEANS).The points in common are that you have Unique vocalists, and musicians who are masters at what they play. Anyway, jettison the comparison. JUDAS PRIEST stand alone in the Hard rock world as being brilliant musicians, and consistently hard workers who have fans that stick to the PRIEST like few band fans do. In my view there are few bands that can deserve that kind of loyalty in hard rock. And JUDAS PRIEST have produced a work that shows they can play extremely, extraordinarily well. There is not a weak track on the album. The Package I bought was the the "middle" edition, where the Book has the CDs in the front ( disc 1 ) and in the back ( disc 2). The Book is very well done. Just a word of caution, if you have either sweaty hands at the time you look at the book, or someone who wants to look at this book with any kind of gunk on their hands, try and avoid it: this is a collectors book that needs careful handling. If you can afford the Vinyl edition ( as in Vinyl record version) then you should buy that. Whilst I am tremendously happy with the NOSTRADAMUS work, I am also happy with the edition I bought. This is a great year for Rock releases, and I do mean in the classic, best quality sense.
Ultimate PRIEST . September 20, 2008 My biggest complaint against Ozzy & Tony is "No new material".
Wow, Glen and KK and Robert have not only swung out of the park, they tore the cover off it, BUY THIS !!
When Zep released STAIRWAY on IV it took 2 years to grow, the same is here except FM is already invented. There is everything for Priest fans, twin guitars from Sad Wings, it has everything from the past. Buy it, it is the future! A self fulfilling prophesy?
'Nostradamus' is a Judas Priest tour de force... a masterpiece! August 31, 2008 Having been a Judas Priest fan for a long time, I can say that this album is not the usual Priest. However, I can also say that it's the best I've ever heard! It is truly a masterpiece on so many levels. Unlike the usual Priest, best listened to on a fast drive or a hard run, 'Nostradamus' is best appreciated at high volume in a dark, candlelit room. Intelligent, dark, and thoughtful, this work combines great instrumental performances, Halford's amazing vocal ability, and a well-researched interpretation of the life of a compelling historical figure. Well done!
What's old is new again! August 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been a Priest fan forever, even when Rob spilt, I held out hope that they would continue on and they did after about a 7 year break with Ripper up front. This recent release will be a mixed bag for most Priest fans. The reason I say that is simply because it's not what you would expect to hear from this band. If you're looking for 80's style Priest?, it ain't here! If you're looking for 70's style Priest?, well their are elements of it on here as it does somewhat hearken back to the early stuff from albums like Sad Wings Of Destiny and Sin After Sin etc. One things for sure, It'll surprise you in many ways. To be honest, it took me about 20 listens to really start to appreciate what we have here. I guess it comes down to how you perceived this band to be. If you like the 80's stuff, you more than likely wont get into this. If you liked the really early stuff, you'll love this release. Nostradamus is a masterpiece in my books. It's symphonic, overblown, slow and probably far to long, but man does it kick ass. For those of you who say it's not heavy, either you're simply not giving it a chance for the reasons I've stated above, or you're just not listening! Priest has definitely departed from the signature sound we've become used to over the last two decades or so. This release is a different animal here all together and it's back to the old school Priest. Like the headline states, "what's old is new again!" Rob Halford's voice will always be powerful, after all, he is the Metal God and you do have to give them props for not resting on their laurels and really branching out with this effort. Hell, you get nearly two hours of music here and it is really one tune in 23 parts which provides you the listener with a very cohesive sounding cd. To rap it up, although maybe have flamed them for this cd, I think that it really is their best effort thus far. What, did I say that? Absolutely, to me this is a fantastic release that brings back to the good ol' days before they kind of became a cookie cutter metal band in the 80's (not that's theirs anything wrong with that!). I absolutely love what they've done here as they have taken this band back to it's roots. If you've liked Priest past and present?, you owe it to yourself to check out this latest release. It's truly something special from a band that is as relevant today as it was some 30 years ago. Well done gentlemen!!
Metal Gods Are Back August 23, 2008 This is their greatest production so far both albums have so much feel and power in them that you feel submerced in their music. Listen to them you will agree
