5 out of 5 stars An Amazing Album!!!   April 14, 2008
A great combination of orchestral and heavy metal. The arrangements are very complex and interesting, not to mention that Kahn is the MAN!

My favorite songs would have to be all 3 in the Elizabeth trilogy which is based on the infamous Elizabeth Bathory. Great songs and great interpretations.

This was the first album of Kamelot's that I got into and I definitely recommend this to everyone!

5 out of 5 stars Standard for any fan and priceless to those who aren't.   February 15, 2008
Karma is one of many mold-breaking records by Kamelot.

Featuring timeless pieces such as "Forever" and "Karma", it also boasts the three-part masterpiece "Elizabeth".

Karma offers so much to any music lover, and like a fine wine it will only get better with age.

5 out of 5 stars this is awesome material. worth every penny.   December 22, 2007
I thought I'd never hear a group that was better than Queensryche. I must not have looked that hard because in the last two days I found a couple bands that not only met, but surpassed my expectations. These two groups are Kamelot and Sonata Arctica.

After listening to the clips from a few of the Amazon.com MP3 Kamelot album offerings, I decided upon the "Karma" album. I was not at all disappointed in my selection. To be honest, with Queensryche, I often had to listen to their new releases a few times to begin to appreciate them. I liked the "Karma" material immediately (except for the french song).

Blazing tracks [in order of my preference] are "Wings of Despair", "The Spell", "Forever", "Karma", "Across the Highlands"

One that is more of a ballad style is "The Light I Shine On You" and at times it really rocks.

"Temples of Gold" is simply beautiful. They even manage to get in a little lead guitar at the end.

"Elizabeth: I. Mirror Mirror" probably the slowest and darkest track picks up at 2:45. Their vocalist shows his range. At 3:15 you get some good lead work.

"Elizabeth: II. Requiem For The Innocent" also dark, is much faster paced with lots of guitar work. You get piano and orchestra at 3:15.

"12. Elizabeth: III. Fall From Grace" starts out blazing and goes all over the place. At 4:00 it starts to fade out... hmmmm. actually my MP3 seems to have about 7 minutes of dead silence at the end of this song.

"Ne Pleure Pas" (the french version of Don't you Cry). It's about the only song that I may not truly appreciate yet. Actually, it is not really that bad, but it's just acoustic guitar, some strings, and vocals.

From the other reviews I've read, "Karma" is not their best CD. I can't comment on that, but if that is true, I am really looking forward to delving into their other stuff.

5 out of 5 stars Still Epica   December 5, 2007
Kamelot can not seem to go wrong. Four whole albums later than Karma, they're still rolling out Epic, catchy, and best of the best albums. I came back to Karma in a Kamelot-frenzy (obsession with the newer albums The Black Halo and Ghost Opera), trying to find whatever Kamelot I could.

Kamelot is always good but Karma is a particular gem. It's really the start of it all where Kamelot really got off the ground and to the level where they are now. Even know, after many other albums, Kamelot is still playing "Forever" and "Karma" live (SEE THEM LIVE! THEY'RE AMAZING! Ok, I'm done with my plug). Because these songs never get old.

For those who aren't familiar with Kamelot, it's a Epic symphonic metal band, in my opinion, the male-led counterpart to the old Nightwish. It's very listenable - I think that the songs would catch anyone the first time listening to it. The lead singer Khan has a very powerful voice and, unlike some other symphonic metal bands, actually sings rather than growl, scream, or grunt.

Song run-through:

1. Regalis Apertura - 4/5 One of the best intros I've heard yet. Orchestrated with a melody that reoccurs in "Karma."
2. Forever - 5/5 Catchy, fast-paced, melodic. Great stuff. This tends to be the "sing-back" song at concerts.
3. Wings of Despair - 4.5/5 Love this song. It's catchy and great.
4. The Spell - 3.5/5 Not one of my particular favorites. It doesn't really stand out much and the chorus slows down some.
5. Don't You Cry - 5/5 A beautifully sad ballad written in honor of Thomas Youngblood's dead father. Khan really milks this song in the gentlest purr.
6. Karma - 6/5 The superstar song of the album and one of my favorite Kamelot songs to date. The intro is a fast-paced version of "Regalis Apertura" and it's epic, loud, huge, and just plain amazing.
7. The Light I Shine on You - 4/5 I can't really remember this song that well. It's pretty good, nothing super special.
8. Temples of God - 4.5/5 A very simple, pretty song with a very nice intro.
9. Across the Highlands - 4.5/5 Another very catchy, fairly simple song with a nice melody.
10, 11, 12. Elizabeth: I, II, III - 4/5 This is supposed to be one song (or at least one story) broken up into three parts. The first is fairly slow and soft, the second gains momentum, and the third finishs off as with a bang. It took me awhile to really like any part of this song. I'm still not a huge fan of the first song but I do like the second and third parts. All three parts are fairly haunting in melody and Khan really puts forth a good show.

Anyway, this is great stuff. If you're into newer Kamelot, don't be put off by the old date. This is just as good.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Prog/Power Metal Release   August 7, 2007
I have been into Kamelot around a month now, and This is one of my favorite cd's from them ( I have all of them ). If you like Melodic metal with GOOD vocals then this is a must. Khan is one of the best singers come recent, check him out on his old band called "Conception" awesome!
