Nice New Wave Set August 10, 2006 "Ultimate New Wave Party" gives you some of the best new wave tunes from the 80s. The sound quality is excellent and there are liner notes. While the mix sounds good when listening to the CD in its entirety, it makes selecting individual tunes or shuffle play a little dicey - which is the only reason I didn't give this CD 5 stars. But if you love the 80s or you're throwing an 80s party then this is the CD for you!
WARNING!! THIS CD IS MIXED! (SONGS RUN TOGETHER) January 28, 2006 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
There is good selection on this CD, and the fidelity is outstanding. However, BE WARNED THAT this CD is mixed--that is, the next song will start before the present song is finished playing. If you are just listening as background or for exercise, fine. But if you are trying to pick up specific tracks, avoid this CD, as you will not get a "clean" copy of your target tracks; instead the start of your target track will be combined with the end of the previous track, and then the end of your target track will be combined with the start of the next track. (There are only a couple of seconds overlap usually between the departing and arriving track.)
Because it is mixed and that is not a featured fact on the CD, I give it only 3 stars. But if the mixing doesn't bother you or if you prefer it, it is a very solid compilation. And if you like mixing, the mixing is quite well done.
However, all these songs are available elsewhere in unmixed compilations if you look around a little. Go to Google Advanced Search, type in the name of the song in the "exact phrase" search section, then put the group's name (in quotations if more than one word) and the key phrase "various artists" (also in quotes) in the top line of the search area (the "all the words" search area). You will easily find other compilations with your target songs on them. Happy Hunting!
Oh and don't be confused by the "1998" in the title, there is no connection to that year in the CD itself, it is all '80s originals.

Anyone who hit the clubs in the early/mid eighties will want this album. It's great party music, and excellent driving music.
An excellent New Wave collection July 23, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
"Ultimate New Wave Party 1998" is an excellent collection of songs. Most of the selections on this disc are from the 80s, and listening to the disc reminds me why so many people remember 80s music with such fondness. This CD strikes a near-perfect mix of romance (Modern English, "I Melt With You"), wounded cynicism (Soft Cell, "Tainted Love"), irresistible self-indulgence (Billy Idol, "Dancing With Myself"), sensuality (Berlin, "Take My Breath Away"), animalistic sexuality (Duran Duran, "Hungry Like the Wolf"), whimsy (Madness, "Our House"; Thomas Dolby, "She Blinded Me with Science"), and weirdness (Eurythmics, "Sweet Dreams"; A Flock of Seagulls, "I Ran"). Highly recommended.
Why Weren't There Any Others? May 13, 2001 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really enjoyed Ultimate New Wave Party, and have been disapointed they haven't come out with another one. Some have complained that they didn't like the mixing, but I actually thought the continuos mixing gave these songs an extra little flavor. The best song, of course, is Soft Cell's "Tainted Love", which has become a classic. Other huge classic hits include Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of These) and Rock Lobster. She Blinded Me With Science is also pretty good. If you like this type of music, then get this CD as this is the one stop for all of those new wave hits you enjoyed so much. I'd definately recommend this. It's awesome!
