Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
Samjanitha, U. Shrinivas' (recent contributor to Miles From India) new release on Dreyfus, is at once his most complex and most accessible music. Shrinivas and his cohorts--which include some of the most renowned names in contemporary Indian music--navigate hairpin rhythmic turns and offer a consistently invigorating panoply of tantalizing sounds.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful recording, full of life and virtuosic performances   July 25, 2008

First I'll address the 4-star rating versus 5-star: this recording is "overproduced" sounding, having lost some of its organic appeal with the heavy-handed application of studio technology.

As far as the performances themselves: spectacular. The recording assembles a who's-who of the best in Indian-classical and crossover Indo-fusion musicians including the maestro himself, U. Shrinivas on electric mandolin, along with Dominique di Piazza (Bass); Zakir Hussain (Tabla); Vikku Vinayakram (Ghatam); V.Selvaganesh (Kanjeera); Debashish Bhattacharya (Hindustani Slide Guitar); U.Rajesh (Mandolin); George Brooks (Sax). If you are a fan of indo-fusion from the likes of John McLaughlin, Summit, L. Shankar, etc., you will love this item and I highly recommend it.
