4 out of 5 stars Frantic Club Remixes..No Thanks!   October 2, 2006

Nice idea, but Mariah should've released 2 seperate remix projects - One Edition for fans who like those frantic club style remixes that have the same beat for the most part & Another for fans who appreciate the 'urban/R&B' remixes that incorporate hip-hop elements with newly recorded vocals (and music in some cases!). Personally, I enjoy Mariah's 'urban/R&B' remixes because they always bring something fresh to the table, unlike those repetitive club mixes (which also plagued the 2nd disc of Whitney's 'Greatest Hits' set!!). Mariah's 'The Remixes' also include a few 'album versions' of songs, while leaving off some great remixes. Hmmm...Bad Move! This mistake & the frantic club mixes cost the set a star! At any rate, I decided to build on what the 2nd CD of 'The Remixes' had to offer, by creating my own collection of remixes to take on the road. Here's what my
'Ultimate Remix Collection, Vol.1' features...

1. Fantasy (Remix feat.ODB)
2. Always Be My Baby (So So Def Remix feat.DaBrat & Xscape)
3. Dreamlover (Club Joint Remix)
4. My All / Stay Awhile (So So Def Remix ft.Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz)
5. Thank God I Found You ('Make It Last' Remix feat.Joe & Nas)
6. Honey (So So Def Remix feat.DaBrat & J.D.)
7. Loverboy (Remix feat.DaBrat & Ludacris)
8. Heartbreaker (Remix ft.DaBrat & Missy Elliott)
9. Breakdown (The Mo Thugs Remix ft.Bone Thugs-n-Harmony)
10. The Roof (The Mobb Deep Remix)
11. Honey (The Bad Boy Remix ft.Mase & The Lox)
12. I Still Believe / Pure Imagination (The Damizza Remix
feat.Krazie Bone & DaBrat)
13. The One (So So Def Remix feat.Bone Crusher)
14. Anytime You Need A Friend (Soul Convention Remix)
15. Through The Rain (Remix feat.Joe & Kelly Price)
16. We Belong Together (Remix feat.Jadakiss)
BONUS - 17. Shake It Off (Remix feat.Jay-Z & Freeway)

Maybe the record compnay will reissue Mariahs CD, but until
then, I'll rock my personal collection!
Peace, SD
(of 'Chaka's World')

2 out of 5 stars Sooo Disappointing   June 23, 2006

I like Mariah, but this album was the ultimate disappointment. Here's why:

1) Why weren't there any remixes of her early hits like "Someday" or "Make It Happen". Mariah- we all know you had a career before "Fantasy". You should acknowledge it more often.
2) Where the heck was the "I Still Believe/Pure Imagination" remix? It's an awesome remix.
3)There should of been a remix for "The Roof", too.
4) What's with all the album versions? Yes, the version of "Loverboy" on here was techinally a remix, but we already own it on GLITTER. As I recall, there were other "Loverboy" remixes on the single. Also, "Sweetheart" and "Breakdown" both had remixes that should of been here, instead of the album versions.
5)Lastly, when are we finally going to get a Mariah compilation with some real liner notes? All we get here are the covers of Mariah's maxi-singles and the songwriting/producing credits.

I really wanted to like this album, but it was awful and really could of been great, which is the disappointing part.

4 out of 5 stars A Must for any MC fan...   May 7, 2006

But there are some major omissions. "The Roof," "I Still Believe" Pure Imagination remix, "Thank God I Found You- Make it Last Forever" but overall, a great deal for any MC collector. I hope she releases another remixes or Greatest Hits CD soon to include MIMI work...but I guess that would be too soon.

5 out of 5 stars something for both fanbases   April 28, 2006
3 out of 4 found this review helpful

instead of doing a cd of just the club anthems, or a cd of just hip hop jams... Mariah realizes these mixes appeal to two different audiences and rightfully made a collection which was two discs, one for the clubgoers, one for the hip-hoppers, and a great 2-disc bargain for the die-hard fans. She did it perfectly here, as opposed to J. Lo and Destiny's Child, who both released remix albums in the past trying to merge club and rap mixes onto the same disc which really doesn't appeal to either base. Those two are just like Mariah in the sense of having huge fans in both fanbases and should also come out with 2-disc remix collection, 1 disc of club mixes, 1 disc of hip hop mixes.

Mariah is one of the queens of dance music even though a lot of people don't realize it. Only Madonna, Janet and Donna Summer have had more success than her in clubland, and they have always made more dance-oriented music anyways, which makes Mariah's superstardom in the genre (Dance was the only genre where she had a #1 hit off Charmbracelet in) more fascinating. Her Dreamlover club mix is an all-time dance classic. For the sale price Amazon is offering it for (10 dollars!!!), you should order it if you're a fan of either the dance or hip hop mixes. Mariah was smart enough to realize they are seperate fanbases and did both sides justice.
