Remix Is Classic Mariah August 31, 2005 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Although it has not been released commercially in the US, save for availability on iTunes, the Remix of "We Belong Together" featuring Jadakiss and Styles P. is an essential listen Mariah for fans casual, diehard, and everywhere in-between.
Now in its 13th week #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, "We Belong Together" has clearly proven itself Mariah's biggest single in her more than 15 years of recording. Is it possible that the Remix is just as good as the original, or maybe even better? You bet.
Jadakiss and Styles P. lay down an excellent rap that fits perfectly into the groove of Jermaine Dupri's frothy piano-driven production. They infect the song with a shot of humor, while Mariah sings her lyrics in a more subtle, laid-back manner, while still showing off her voice like no one else but she can toward the song's end, albeit in a less powerhouse fashion than on the original.
The end result of the Remix is pure perfection, and sits right up there with all of Mariah's hip/pop remixes she has made of her singles since 1995 when she began with the Bad Boy Mix of "Fantasy" with ODB. Furthermore, it's a seperate song in its own right, and smatters even more of a track you'd imagine eminating from a radio on the beach in the summer's dog days than the original does.
All things considered, the Remix of "We Belong Together" is essential listening for all of Mariah's fans and admirers. A lot of time, thought and talent went into this reinterpretation, and it shows.
ONE OF THE BEST MARIAH SINGLES EVER! August 30, 2005 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Not only is 'We Belong Together' the most successful single by a solo artist of all time (Mariah cannot beat her own record with her duet with Boyz II Men), but the 'It's Like That' Remix with Fat Joe is great! Most people would need to get the radio rip off of the internet, so it's really hard to find a crystal clear version of this song.
Also, this single includes the VIDEO to 'We Belong Together', so no need to waste computer memory space on this amazing video (#1 on TRL for 8 days, retiring at #1), it's on this CD/VCD!
A great buy, and a great deal! Pick it up NOW!
The remix is okay. August 19, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The original is excellent, and it's no wonder that it was, and still is a chart topper. But the remix is really nothing special. Just download the remix off of iTunes for 99 cents, instead of buying this 2 track single.
For diehard fans, it's worth it for the remix of It's Like That... August 5, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
getting the MAXI single of We Belong Together for the long Peter Rauhofer mix is a must, but this single is crucial for Mariah collectors due to the remix of It's Like That. It strips down some of the vocal and remixes some of the instrumentation while retaining the original groove, and also cuts out some of the chorus's for a rap by Fat Joe. Casual listeners won't be too interested, but Mariah fans should have this one.
Together From Her Again July 23, 2005 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
It is so hard to imagine the status of Mariah Carey right now. She definitely has came back into the mainstream after so many a few years ago say no way. Yet, although she has had some great songs, some others could be improved. Her latest song, We Belong Together, the second single from her 2005 record, The Emancipation Of Mimi is a very upbeat, but soft ballad that does carry her signature voice. The song is fairly well at first, but loses a little ground when it is overplayed. I still like the song, but it isn't one of those I could really rave about other than her last hit It's Like That which was more upbeat. Still, this is a good song for Mariah, but not one that is defiant.
Song: C+
