Michael Buble's Incredible Musicality August 29, 2008 It's been a long time that someone has all the elements of greatness when it comes to a male singer. Michael has these elements in spades. A lovely voice with a full range, incredible control and phrasing, and that special building of anticipation that the greats have, fill this musical collection of older and more modern music. The musicians are also wonderful and conducted superbly well.
GREAT FOR ROMANCE August 25, 2008 I ENJOYED ALL OF THE SONGS AND WAS INTRODUCED TO SOME NEW ONES. IF YOU'RE ROMANTIC OR NOSTALGIC....THIS CD IS FOR YOU......GO ROMANCE!!!!!!
But still.... August 6, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The guy's got a lisp (pronounced lithp). Really...listen closely. Still, it's a fantastic cd.
Always On My Mind - A good musical lesson I received gratefully August 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just like to comment on one track - "You Were Always On My Mind"! Yes! This track has been on my mind when I first took this album home months ago. Again, when Buble was on tour in Sydney last month - the arrangement and delivery of this number LIVE (!) was - Intimate yet level-headed, Tender yet Passionate, Flawless and yet vulnerable. It presses my first tear-duct button during the concert :)
I was absolutely indifferent, if not dislikening, the original version of this song, which was a country ballad (doesn't press any of my buttons). Then Pet Shop Boys made it worst with a high-camp techno-disco treatment to it in the late 80's. I saw disco mirror balls spinning, boys (!) on the dance floor; more lust than intimacy and heart felt romance. NEXT!
I believe I've learned a few muscial lessons from this track from Foster's confidently low-key arrangement and treatment of the song, and Buble's vocal delivery. (1) "Less is more" sometimes - The piano introduction, soft with a few notes in the higher registers sets the landscape of this romantic ballad. The slow strings, luxuriously warm double-bass, and the brush-drum kit made this a perfectly intimate encounter. (2) "Don't Rush, Tell the Story with you Heart" - I never get the stories and message of this song from the oringal and Pet Shop Boys' cover until this arrangement. Buble takes his time, word by word, phrase by phrase, telling the story. That IS the right tempo, the right heartbeat, when you are telling your love one that you really love him/her! (3) "Vocally articulate the story line with texture and feel" - There is no need to yell, no vocal acrobatic of vibratos. Michael's voice is full of texture and shades, tenderly, restfully, regretfully....
Best version of this song I've ever heard. Could be the last version.
