2 out of 5 stars This is why people burn CDs instead of buying them   October 4, 2008

I'm so disapointed in the fact that I paid for this CD and she received a portion of what i spent on it. I love all types of music but this was just plan bad. She has a LOVELY voice but what was on the producers mind when this album was put together?!?!? It's not her voice, it not her lyrics, it just seems like this was album was thrown together. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire thing was put together in 1 day. It's horrible.

3 out of 5 stars Mixed on Duffy   October 3, 2008

We recently purchased Duffys CD....Loved Mercy, however the entire CD is very slow and sad bluesy...not quite what we had expected. But she is a VERY talented young lady with a beautiful voice.

4 out of 5 stars Strong Start But Leaves You Wanting   September 29, 2008

Like alot of people I bought Rockferry for the song Mercy. Mercy was getting alot of air play and the song was kind of catchy so I gave it a chance. Mercy really rocks and is a well polished song. However the rest of the album is more of a soul / rb album. Duffy has a great voice but each song builds up and just at it is getting ready to peak it stops. I would anticpate her next album will have a more finished result much like Joss Stone's early career. This is a very good first try and I am sure that we Duffy will be around for awhile.

I feel that one drawback to Duffy is she will be compared to Amy Winehouse, Aidle, and Joss Stone who all are competing for title of best British Soul Artist. It seems like we are in the middle of a 2nd British Invasion. To compare the artists is not fair as they are each strong enough to stand alone.

4 out of 5 stars Also Great Live on SNL 09/27/2008   September 29, 2008

I have enjoyed this CD for quite some time but admit I'm even more impressed now that I caught her performing live on the 09/27/2008 episode of Saturday Night Live. She perfomred "Mercy" and "Stepping Stone" and she was great. The best live performer they've had on in a while. Looking forward to hearing whatever she does next too. I'm enjoying the retro vibe she and Adele and Joss Stone have brought back around. "Stepping Stone" is my favorite and reminds me of those Petula Clark and Dionne Warwick albums my Mom & Dad used to play. Very nice.

4 out of 5 stars Ronnie Spector ???   September 28, 2008

I somehow pictured her sitting on her bedroom floor- alone - with a kid's phono and a pile of Ronnettes records., when I first heard her.

( think " Be My Little Babaaaaaaayyy " ..... you can hear Ronnie in her voice ).
