Sounds Like American Life.....Remixed August 13, 2008 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
Madonna's most recent effort was released to a lot of hype on the heels of the single "4 minutes". Well, dont believe the hype, this album is just about as dissapointing as american life, though nothing can take that albums place at the top of the crappy album hall of fame. There arent any really memorabale performances here, and it sounds like madge is trying to cater to the urban music crowd and stave off the big 5-0. This is Madonna as Keyshia Cole and it dosent work.
consistently good August 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
i grew up on madonna and as time goes by, she gets better and better. this album is a good example of that. i don't pay attention to that "reinventing herself" stuff. its the music that is not reinvented but evolving and adapting to the sound of popular culture, as long she likes, madonna can keep putting out music that people will enjoy
Great to listen to and hear August 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great album to just listen to casually or to really hear the words and beats.

When i first starting hearing the then rumours that Madonna was to go in a more mainstream route with her latest offering, HARD CANDY, I was a little disappointed. Her last outing, the sugary , glistening CONFESSIONS ON A DANCE FLOOR had me spoiled. It was THE MADONNA ALBUM that I had waited my entire span as a Madonna fan for (were talking nearly 25 years here). I never listen to mainstream radio, the only way I do top 40 is if it has been remixed for the clubs into a foot stomper of a house mix. So naturally when I heard that she had been able to recruit Timbaland, Timberlake, Pharrell, etc, I was less than enthusiastic. Needless to say, 4 months after it's initial release, I am COMPLETELY IMPRESSED. Yes the lead off single "4 Minutes" was mainstream at its best, it's still catchy. My favorite track is actually the opener, "Candy Shop." The other cuts on this album are alot of fun too. Give It 2 Me, Dance 2 Night, Beat Goes On, She's Not Me, are all glittery, funky disco tracks that remind you of her very first debut cd simply titled "Madonna." (You remember.. the one with Holiday, Borderline, Lucky Star?) Others such as Heartbeat and Miles Away (supposedly the third single slated for release) are really good as well. This cd , I can honestly say, has no political agenda - natrually, this will change when she revamps some of the numbers for her upcoming "Sticky and Sweet" tour. Alot of people will think 4 Minutes, is about literally saving the world, but my interpretation of the song is that you have 4 Minutes to make your mark on the dance floor while "your song" is on, to prove to everyone else around you what YOU are all about. All in all, not a bad outing for her final cut of original material under the Warner lable that she has been with for the past 25 years. It gets several spins on my ipod. I even picked up the limited edition boxed set and special triple vinyl edition. The album sounds it's best on vinyl...the warmth of the beats are really captured there. I will say that as far as the cd single/remix packages for this album, they BLOW AWAY the ones for Confessions. The remixes for 4 Minutes were a good start, but it's the remix package for Give It 2 ME that prove that Madonna is still, and will ALWAYS be the queen of the dance floor. For all of you house lovers out there, the first two singles from this album boast remixes from the likes of Bob Sinclar, Tracy Young, Junkie XL, Peter Rauhofer, Rebirth, Fedde Le Grande (a fav of mine), Eddie Amador, Jody den Broeder (a fav of mine), Tong and Spoon and Paul Oakenfold. They are HOT! Check em out..
