3 out of 5 stars All instrumental - no singing.   June 9, 2008

If you want hear NIN's new sung album, The Slip, download for free at their [..] The Slip includes the new hit single "Discipline". Ghosts I-IV is all instrumental, so its quite different from other NIN albums.

A sountrack to very different moments. An interesting record, specially Ghosts III and IV.
Very good, but the instrumentals from The Fragile are way better.

4 out of 5 stars An extention of Fragile   June 7, 2008
One of the previous reviews has a point; the one with Trent and chocolate fountains [a little weird].
Listening to Ghosts, I could not help but think of the Fragile. I liked the Fragile and I like this album as well, but I would not call this album anything new. And in addition to that, there seems to be some recurring theme in some of these songs, which unites them in one way and makes them a little bland in another. I also do not understand why Trent Reznor chose to release 'The Slip' - even for free. It feels like some Rap album, three good songs with the rest just blah.
Though the songs on Ghosts are not named [ghost 1, 2, 3 etc] I can see titles fitting "Somewhat Damaged Too"

5 out of 5 stars Thirty-Six Tracks and Not One Disappoints   June 4, 2008

This was a quick release with Trent Reznor releasing last year the political Year Zero. Oftentimes when bands come out so fast with another record they wind up wishing they hadn't, but that's not the case here. Trent Reznor left the record company he'd been with for a very long time to do his own thing. And doing his own thing is what he did here, putting out thirty-six tracks on four discs

The mood is very ambient with melodic piano compositions, then going into his typical industrial jams that you are used to with Trent and Nine Inch Nails. Due to it's length the "big" moments are scattered throughout the album, making it one you have to listen to a lot to truly get it, but it's so good, you won't mind.

Trent does what he does best with obscure lyrics and electronic sounds that are weird, but interesting. He has put out great music over many years now and this album will not disappoint any Nine Inch Nails fan.

4 out of 5 stars Great NIN album.   June 2, 2008

I'll keep it short. This is NIN's best album since the Fragile (and still is; I wasn't too impressed with The Slip). Reznor sounds really focused here and produces a great instrumental album. Not perfect, but what is these days? A good album to throw on and get lost in.
