5 out of 5 stars Here's Where It All Began++++++++++++   May 2, 2008
Recently Mariah has been in the news breaking records set by the good ole boys (Elvis and the Beatles) and it's so nice to see her comeback to No. 1 again, besides she's looking great with the return to the charts.
The Glitter years are behind her now (her lowest point during her career) and she showed us how to brush yourself off and get right back up.

This collection reminds us of why we first fell in love with her in the first place. WE LOVE YOU GIRL!!

4 out of 5 stars 1990 - 2001 : The Birth of a Legend   April 24, 2008

Remember that this 2 Disc set contains most of Mariah's best songs from 1990 to 2001. It stops just before the "Charmbracelet" Era, and therefore contains nothing from "Glitter", "The Emancipation of Mimi" or her 2008 album. The reason I'm stating this is because most people actually do not realize that this recording is about seven years old already, and is the perfect collection if you're into 'vintage' Mariah.

Which is not a bad thing. The 1990s saw Mariah rule the airwaves with back to back No. 1 hits, and all of them are here. My only issue with it is that Mariah's greatest song, "Breakdown" from the album "Butterfly" is nowhere to be found. This is a criminal overlook, because the song was released with a single and a video and even Mariah says its one of the best things she's ever done. Also sorely missing is the underrated "The Roof", which again is from the "Butterfly" album. Maybe you should also pick up the entire "Butterfly" CD while you're at it, as that is clearly Miss Carey's best album.

My personal favorite, "Can't Let Go" is here, and someone had the wise sense to include "Underneath the Stars" from the "Daydream" album - not many people know this song very well at all, but I'm glad to see it here. Get this album if you want a ready-reckoner of all those No. 1 hits Mariah has, or its also perfect as a gift for someone who is new to Mariah Carey. Surprisingly, this set is one of the weaker selling Greatest Hits out there (a mistake by Mariahs' record company as they released the shorter "1s" CD a while before this), but its certainly better than most.

Four and half Stars. Well Deserved, and a great introduction to one of our greatest living singers.

1 out of 5 stars Mariah can't sing   March 25, 2008

Why is this woman so popular? I've tried to like her but she just can't sing. She uses too much nasal, too much breath, and too much vibrato to cover up her weak voice.

5 out of 5 stars Finally a good "Greatest Hits" compilation   March 1, 2008

This 2-CD set basically covers all Mariah's singles from her Columbia years (1990-2000) except for "There's got to be a way", "Never Forget You", "Open Arms", "Breakdown", "The Roof", "Crybaby", "Against All Odds" (it can found in International editions though), and the Merry Christmas singles (I guess they consider them "seasonal"). Unlike the #1's collection from 1999, this set includes top-ten singles and fan favorites that were not big hits.

There is no filler in this set, and this is a great introduction to Mariah's music for new fans or people that just one to own one release by Mariah Carey.
All songs are arranged in chronological order starting with the first Single "Vision of Love" from the debut album and ending with "Can't take that away" from the last album "Rainbow" on Columbia Records.

Although this is a perfect "greatest hits" collection (except for the bonus remix that does not do add any good), loyal fans expected a little more since they might own already all of the tracks featured this set. It is not uncommon these days to see "greatest hits" collections with bonus discs of unreleased material and DVD's full of video clips and archived material. Since Mariah is not just another musician, but one of the best-selling artists of all time, a more complete collection would have been more suited for her. Hopefully in the near future they will release an "ultimate" collection or real "anthology" with all of her singles and best songs and unreleased material on both CD and DVD.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection!   February 23, 2008

I have always been a Mariah Carey fan since her debut album in 1990.She did slack a little bit after releasing her Glitter movie and album. But she has made some amazing pop and r&b songs. Still to this day, I really enjoy songs like "Dreamlover,Hero,Always Be My Baby,Love Takes Time,Fantasy,Honey,Heartbreaker",and so many more. If you have just recently discovered Mariah Carey's music, then this album is exactly what you want to see why she was one of the top leading artists of the 1990's. I am still stunned that this album charted at #52 and only achieved platinum status. I believe it was to 0 promotion for the album. Besides for that, it is well worth your purchase.
