Product Description Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus is the expansion pack for the popular Phantasy Star Universe game, bringing a more personalized and interactive universe to the acclaimed series. In addition to new enemies, weapons, levels and cities there will be more options available for gamers to further individualize and customize the look of their avatars. Ambition of the Illuminus continues the exciting PSU story online as the player's personal online avatar is now the central character, investigating and working to restore peace in the chaotic Gurhal System. The player investigates through a series of single-player missions, meeting familiar characters like Ethan Waber from Episode 1, along with other new ones, including a GUARDIAN instructor, Laia Martinez. In addition, the online multiplayer world, with its fast-paced, engaging battle experience for up to six players, has been greatly expanded with new missions, new cities and new enemies.

Fixes everything PSU did wrong. April 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Phantasy Star Universe had a few flaring flaws in the original title: a lackluster storyline, heavy loss-rates for items and repetitive hack-and-slash gameplay. But they made up for it.
PSU AoI introduces several new features, mainly nostalgia relating back to Phantasy Star Online. The addition of PSO based clothing, areas, and timed-hits bring back what made PSO fun, and expands on it. Unfortunately, they did not fix the ratty ally AI, nor did they make it any less cheap with traps or enemies that seem just a tad faster. But the game is still fun, and the flexibility in weapons, clothing and hairstyles they have added make your Guardian completely customizable. I recommend only buying this if you play online, since that is part of the charm of the series.
Offline play does have its merits, even though the story is a carbon copy of Online's Episode 2. Also, it would've been more fun to be able to remodel your room and add more objects like in online play, but it is still solid.
Overall, I enjoyed it, and it is worth checking out, especially online.
Fails to save on PS3 January 14, 2008 0 out of 13 found this review helpful
I was a big fan of Phantasy Star Universe on the Xbox 360, but this title isn't available as physical media on that machine, it's a download only and to top it off there is no offline content on the 360. So that's why I went with the PS2 version thinking I could play it on my PS3...
Wrong... wrong... wrong...
You can play the game on your PS3, but if you have the 80 GB version you will not be able to save your game. It returns an error every time.
"Game Data, Extra mode character and Sega ID login on the memory card (8MB)(for Playstation2) in MEMORY CARD slot 1 may be damaged. Do you want to delete the damaged Game Data?"
I would have been better off just downloading the Xbox 360 version and paying the $10 a month to play it online even though it's not massively multiplayer and there isn't a persistent online world.
