Great game...for a time. November 29, 2008 Are of Empires 3 is a great game. You have the choice of a story mode, free play, there are battles on land and in water. Hire mercenaries, wage war on elephants or have wild beasts running at your side.
The differences in the cultures you can play as really stand out. They make a huge difference so no two countries are played the same. This can help support a play style strength or help make up for a weakness.
This game is hugely fun. It does however get old after you beat the story mode(s) and rip through your first 20 free play games (even at the hardest difficulty). I would expect to get anywhere from 80-100 hours of fun out of this one before you shelf it or give it to a friend.
the best Strategy game in the world today. November 23, 2008 I think Microsoft has consistently maintained a high quality series. I think it is the best AI game on the market today.....I am very pleased.
Okay, so it plays October 29, 2008 If you like AoE then this is another like the others. I do get tired of the scots accent. My first set of discs were bad and Microsoft replaced them quickly, with a minimum of hassle. That part was pretty cool.
The game seems to have a little issue syncing up with Vista, which is funny given its heritage.
Awesome September 5, 2008 I bought this game for my husband who loves strategical games. He loves it and plays it all the time. The graphics are spectacular.
My kid loves it August 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a kid I was more into the shoot-em up type of games but my kid is just a notch above me intellectually. And he really loves the game. While it is true that it can slow your computer dramatically, my advice is to buy memory. We pumped the system to 1.5GB and the game seems to buffer the data quite well diminishing the disk access delays. Now we run full graphics with good performance. And I should add we scratched the CD and Microsoft had a very good customer service. I'd call AoE III a fun & safe choice.
