Amazon.com The third game in the Fallout series, Fallout 3 is a singleplayer action role-playing game (RPG) set in a post-apocalyptic Washington DC. Combining the horrific insanity of the Cold War era theory of mutually assured destruction gone terribly wrong, with the kitschy naivety of American 1950s nuclear propaganda, Fallout 3 will satisfy both players familiar with the popular first two games in its series as well as those coming to the franchise for the first time. Fallout! not just for the end of the world anymore! November 26, 2008 I'm very impressed with this game having never played (more than just a few minutes online) a fallout game before I wasnt sure what to expect. Although seeing the game was from the same people that gave us oblivion I knew it would be something of very good quality. That being said I have to warn all the parents out there THIS GAME IS NOT FOR THE YOUNG OR THOSE EASILY OFFENDED BY GORE. This game is grusome in its gameplay just watch a preview video of it. Although for those not offended by the gore I highly recommend it for its freedom of choice gameplay as well as the action in the game.
Like Oblivion with Guns and no Magic November 7, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you like Oblivion and Bioshock this is a game combining a little of each with an eerie feel. Limited Edition is pretty cool with a bobble head and a nice art book. Dont expect it to control like oblivion though.
The Greatest Game Ever Made November 3, 2008 Post-Apocalyptia at its finest... The music, interaction, detail, humor, sense of reality, and general feel of the game is amazing.
Bethesda Studios succeeded at creating the Greatest Game Ever!
Excellent, Love the Details November 3, 2008 This is like a cross between Bioshock and The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. It has the same retro feel and period detail to it that was so great in Bioshock, but uses the same rank and menu system from Oblivion. The V.A.T.S. system is pretty good, but it is also hard to hit the enemies without using it, which can be a pain. I'm playing it on Normal, and it is pretty challenging. I really like the character customization and the fact that you can choose to be male or female. I like that they eliminated the annoying "arrest" sequence that always happened in Oblivion when you got caught trying steal or break into someone's house. In Fallout people just start trying to waste you if they catch you stealing. The music is great with a good mix of Jazz and Big Band, and there are so many great little goodies hidden around, like Squirrel On A Stick and Dandy Boy Apples. Very Entertaining! One of my absolute favorites this year, and I'm sure I'll pour 100+ hours into it like I did with Oblivion. If you liked Bioshock or Oblivion, I'm sure you'll enjoy this game as well.
Very "involving" game... November 2, 2008 First off, let me say that I did play Oblivion for a short time while I was deployed to the desert but did not "live" it like some people did. I did love it while I played but still don't want to pay full price for a game that's been out for a while.
Now, saying all of that, I do enjoy Fallout 3 very much. Along with other reviews, I'll say that the graphics are amazing. Just the background detail alone is beautiful. The gameplay is a little different. I expected, not knowing too much about the game, something a little like Oblivion and maybe Gears. It is almost exactly like Oblivion. The 3rd person view is almost unusable during combat. The VATS combat system, (if you get the game, you'll know what I mean) is a different look at game combat, but nothing really to write home about. The missions are somewhat easy seeing as how you can use your compass to get everywhere you need to get to in the game, however, (maybe it's just me) my guy in the game is a [...]. If more than 2 enemies are attacking me, I usually get my [...] handed to me.
I haven't played the game all the way through, so maybe as my guy develops and more of the missions are played, I might get more into the game. Still recommend this game to all who really want to devote themselves to 1 game. I'll probably put this game down for a while as soon as Gears 2 comes out.
