4 out of 5 stars Fun but basic.   November 20, 2008
This game is good, the customization for the vehicles is GREAT! We all really enjoyed building different ATV's. It has awesome graphics and it is fun to play. But, the game itself does get repetitive. It is true that the difficulty level gets harder as you go along, but it is all repetitive and there will be times you feel almost as if you're just going around in circles doing the same thing over and over again. Overall this is a fun game to play with a group of friends. You just wouldn't want to invest too much time in it.

3 out of 5 stars A good solid racing game to play with your friends   November 20, 2008

"Pure" Is a pretty good name for this game. The vehicles are customizable enough to separate yourself from the rest of the pack, it runs smoothly and has easy to learn controls.

The lack of any obvious way to do a local multilayer game was a downside. However, I was able to get a quick match race on XBL fairly easy, with more then half the race slots filled. Racing against other people was fun and interesting with the added difficulty of needing to pick off power-ups to keep from running out of gas during the race.

The XBL Achievements for the game are all very cut and dry. The good thing about the achievements is that they reward you for doing things that seem to me to involve increasing your skill in the game.

One thing I didn't like about the game was the tutorial. At the end you're asked to run a track within a certain time limit. To do this you need to pull off certain tricks and power boosts to up your speed. The only problem was that I tended to be off by half a second and I had to keep trying again. I understood the controls and how to pull off the power boosts, I just couldn't do it exactly to the standards that the tutorial was expecting.

A person can not be good at a game and still enjoy it, but when you can't even finish the tutorial in three or fewer tries, it gets a little discouraging. Once I got past that though, it was quite a lot of fun. I expect this would be a good game to play over XBL with friends who are far flung.

Bottom line is that if you want to have something easy to get into you can play with friends who are not in same room (or city, or state, or country) as you; make a pact to get it at the same time as those friends. (And wait until it goes on sale.)

5 out of 5 stars Excellent racer!   November 20, 2008
I've been playing video games for well over 20 years, and racers in particular. Pure by Disney came as somewhat of a surprise, and it did not disappoint. It follows along similar lines to the ATV Offroad Fury games from a few years ago, where you race an ATV type vehicle around a closed track. Pure really ramps up the experience with very impressive graphics, a great soundtrack, and looks particularly appealing on a full 5.1 surroud sound / LCD tv system.

The controls are easy to learn, and you can pull off a lot of tricks fairly quickly. I found that the learning curve is well balanced, and it does take a little bit of practice before you get good at a particular track, which I find to be a good thing... too many racers these days are either too easy, or too hard. I've found that Pure is right on the money, and should appeal to the hardcore crowd who want to pull off the fanciest tricks, and the casual crowd who just want to have fun racing around a track in gorgeous environments.

5 out of 5 stars PURE fun despite a couple of annoyances   November 20, 2008
The Good:

* Excellent graphics that defy realism
* You get to build your own ride from bottom up
* High-octane tricks that keep you on the edge of your seat

The bad:

* Controls can be sluggish and unresponsive at times
* Gets repetitive after a while

The Bottom Line:

This was the first video game that I can remember that gives you a "Do Not Try This At Home" fine print before you start playing it and no surprise as these tricks really look fun and makes you want to go out and do the same thing(please don't!) You start off by building your ride, which will take you some time. You get to pick every little minor details for your ride. I'm not a mechanic-saavy, so even though I have no idea what a crocket or a fuel injector does, it cleverly explains to you and how does each part affects your vehicle's speed and handling. After you are done, you are off to the races. There are basically 3 types of races: Long Race, Short Race and Freestyle. Freestyle race is fun, but regular races got a bit boring after a while, even after new tracks were unlocked. Performing tricks can be tough. If you are fraction of a second late on some tricks, you will find yourself crashing just like that. Another annoyance occurs when you step out of bounds. If you do that, you automatically crash, which makes you lose a lot of ground. So while the point of the game is to make crazy tricks that earn you boost, I honestly think that if you drive careful and do not crash, you have a good chance of winning, which makes the whole point of tricks a tad dubious. However, despite that, any fan of racing games or anyone with a passion for ATVs should definitely pick up this title and enjoy it.

5 out of 5 stars Great game! Mean Air!, Fun overall!   November 20, 2008
If you are into games like Motorcross Madness, Road Rage, Dirt, etc... you will love this game.

Pros:

1. Amazing Visuals and Environments
2. Amazing Air on Jumps, they just keep going on and on and on.
3. Excellent Courses, Very Challenging, and the courses degrade as you ride.
4. Fun Fun Fun, well worth the price of admission.

Cons:

1. Long Load Times
2. Building ATVs is cumbersome
3. A bit of repetition.

Overall, its a great game, will definitely be a steal once it hits $29
