4 out of 5 stars Good.... but...   December 2, 2008
I have long time waiting this game because for my, the fight games are my favorites and lamentably the new consoles have left them of side... I buy in the second become available MK. The graphics are ok, but the issues beginnings whit the movements of the characters, to me... a little slow. The fatalities SUCK, I hope more. But the game it's great and very funny.

4 out of 5 stars Very well put together!   December 1, 2008
Ok, first off I haven't played MK since Deception came out for ps2 and that was a great game with the unique styles and combos, very fun. So i was pretty excited to hear about DC vs MK... Come on now FLASH! For real! I could picture myself running circles landing blows at the speed of light! But that didn't happen this game and for good and understandable reasons.
But moving on, this is a great game to add to your fighting collection. It's always good to pop in when company arrives. And the online is a GREAT addition that keeps me wanting to play more.
So I'll just sum up this this review with a couple pros and cons...
Pros:
-Great Visuals
-Great Sound
-Very Entertaining
-Fun to play online or with friends
-Love some of the characters: Joker, funny to fight against. Flash, dont mind losing to him. I personally use Captain Marvel.
-Once again, great job on the character and there combos. Batman looks great when he's beating you to a pulp.
Cons:
-Story mode: **womp, womp** blah, blah, blah RAGE!!! Argh! blah, blah
-NO MINI-GAMES??? come on!
-***BIGGEST CON****
Character selection:
Yes some are very nice choices such as of course, superman, batman, joker, green latern, and even captain marvel and others are ?
Death who? where's cyrax, hell.. Mr. freeze or ooooh Martian Manhunter?
What happended to my go to guy Kung Lao?? IM AT A DISADVANTAGE HERE!!
Please just give me Kung Lao!!!
-The hit detection for the online can get irrating especially when you know you hit the person with an uppercut and that was the winning uppercut but do to some magical glitch it went right through him :/

But all in all, it's a very good game. I payed 60 bucks for it and I don't regret it at all. I just hope that microsoft will be updating some worthy characters!!! Hint, Hint KUNG LAO!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars No other fighting game like it   December 1, 2008
When people talk about this game, it's almost always about the toned-down fatalities (and when people complain about this, they usually haven't even played the game). Personally, I never placed too much importance on fatalities anyway, so that definitely wasn't a deal-breaker for me. Actually, if you play this game and see a lot of the fatalities for yourself, you'll notice that many of them aren't really "toned down," but just more subtle. I think they are just as brutal as ever, and they actually look more realistic in most cases which makes them even more brutal as far as I'm concerned.

However, this is a FANTASTIC game. First of all, the graphics are absolutely gorgeous. If you have a smaller tv, you probably won't notice the stunning degree of detail in the characters until you enter Klose Kombat, but then you'll notice all the cuts, bruises, tears in clothing, etc. that makes you feel like your hits are actually doing some damage.

Also, this game is really balanced. The MK characters are all classics like Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, in fact there aren't any MK characters past MK 2. The DC characters hold their own and don't just feel like Mortal Kombat characters with different clothes. Superman is actually my favorite character to play, and I'm not even a huge DC fan.

The story mode is probably the best one you can find in a fighting game today. Most fighting game's story modes are lacking, like Soul Calibur IV, and aren't really the focus of the game. But in MK vs DC, the story is very essential as it explains why heroes are fighting against heroes, and why the two universes are clashing in the first place. A lot of the dialogue is corny, but that's to be expected and it doesn't ruin the experience at all. And again, the detail in the characters is amazing, not just their appearance but their facial expressions and mannerisms as well.

And finally, the gameplay is meant to feel 2D and fast-paced. It's supposed to feel somewhat like MK2 and MK3, yet there's enough new stuff to keep it fresh and exciting. You'll be falling off of buildings, running through walls, jumping over projectiles...it's never boring. Unlike the last three games there are no multiple fighting styles/weapons, although Deathstroke and Baraka both have blades, and you have to press "B" (Xbox) or "circle" (PS3) to pull them out. Also, the combos are considerably difficult and will take some time to master. This game is significantly more challenging than most other fighting games, yet still fun for beginners as well.

One thing's for sure, there's no other fighting game like it. Check it out if you're looking for something new and refreshing.

3 out of 5 stars Solid Gameplay- Short on Content   November 30, 2008
MK vs. DCU is a solid offering and an improvement over the last several installments in the series. The fighting mechanics are reminiscent of MK II, a title which many fans consider to be the crown jewel of the franchise.

To put it simply if you are a fan of the series, or are even nostalgic about throwing kitana fans at your college roommate ten years ago, I give this a buy rating. The mechanics are simple and enjoyable, yet have an added level of depth thanks to pro moves, which are very challenging, and rewarding, to pull off. New additions to gameplay, such as freefall kombat, add to the excitement. Using a kano ball versus batman and knocking him through a stone wall and off a cliff never gets old. Also, the rage system adds another element of strategy to battles. And certainly worth mentioning, the online play has been seamless.

Why a 3 out of 5 score considering what I had just written? Lack of content. Your basic arcade modes are there, as well as punishing combo challenges and a passable story mode. And that's it. No adventure mode, only 2 unlockable characters (sans fatalities), and no mini-games. Perhaps we were spoiled by previous MK offerings, but this title is bare even compared to next gen titles of other genres.

If you are fan of the series, pick this up. You will spend countless hours with friends and online mastering your favorite characters move list. You will have fun with this game. However, if you are looking for a deeper experience, you may want to wait for the next installment in the series. A game which will likely return the franchise to its mature roots and additional kontent which MK fans have come to expect. It's up to you. Choose your side.

5 out of 5 stars You need this Game for your collection   November 30, 2008

Hesitated on getting this game but done regret it ne bit!!! Short story on the game for both DC and MK but fun on VS with 2 players.

Online is awesome!!! There are chatrooms in which you can challange players in which the challanged player can accept or decline. You can see their stats and the green lite are players you can challange. This is how online should be!!!! Unlike Gears 2

The gameplay is like the old MK games and the new DC characters are awesome and a good change of pace. The only thing that sucks is that there are only 22 characters you can play with including the 2 characters you unlock after beating the game on DC side and MK.

Hope this helps
