GHTunes allows other gamers from around the world to download and play the community's original tracks. Available to PlayStation 3 gamers is Line 6's guitar tone technology, enabling them to use amps, cabs, and effects from the Line 6 POD. Both band and single-player careers feature non-linear progression giving artists the option to change difficulty and instruments with a variety of different gigs available at any time. Never Jam Solo Again Virtual musicians in need of band mates can take their careers online forming worldwide ensembles so no rock star ever has to play a gig solo. Good, but not excellent November 23, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
While I feel Guitar Hero World Tour is a good step forward in the evolution of the franchise, and it's certainly fun, but I can't help but feel that Rock Band 2 is the superior music game for the season. Rock Band 2 has more fit and finish, and certain aspects of GHWT feel like they weren't well thought out. For example, the star power meter is far too small for an HD game, even on my 50in TV. Furthermore, the sounds of the individual drums sound like cheap MIDI when you are performing a fill. Things like this could have easily been avoided, but they weren't.
So close but no cigar......... November 12, 2008 This is a good game but it falls short in a couple of areas:
Pros (always good to stay positive at first):
Music that just isn't available anywhere else Death Magnetic Album (tight) Recording Studio is kinda cool I like how you can pick scales and effects with your axe (more on that in Cons) Create Rock Star is really in depth Compatibility with RB instruments (biggest plus)
Cons
DLC Content is practically non existent (yes it is new but at least support all of GH:3's content would have made up for it) Graphics are not as good as they could/should be Recording Studio is like a create your own ringtone studio......vocals should be in there in some medium......maybe they just can't publish vocals on the net The instruments don't sync that well with the TV and Calibration does little to fix this
Overall GH:WT is a fun game and its worth it if you just love this genre of games to own as it gives you more songs to play. I just think Activision should have stuck to what they were doing before. People love the GH games and with the Artists that they always get they will sell games. I think GH: Aerosmith is cool and I am sure GH: Metallica will sell a lot of games.
Not so thrilled about this game. October 29, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I picked up the first guitar hero when it came out and loved it. Every new game from the core series has been better than the last, for me. I can't say the same for this game.
After each guitar hero I could tell a noticeable improvement in the looks of the game and game graphics. I was expecting something along the lines of GH:III with more polish. The only part of the game that looks smooth is the animation intro, the rest of the game looks rough and pixelated with some jerky movement by the band charters as the songs cut out and your stats show up. In some respects GH:III looks better.
(It's not my tv, hdmi connection or console that's the problem. My blue rays and other ps3 games look fine)
Some of the new character designs are horrendous. Judy Nails for instance looks like a 12 year old suffering from hydrocephalus. Seems like too much time was spent making the real life musicians that show up in game look dead on to the real thing (which is cool), but not enough time on the "guitar heroes".
(Props for bringing pandora back!)
Previously I have enjoyed about ninety percent of the track list on each of the GH games. Nothing good lasts forever. And this GH proves it. One minute iam rocking out to smashing pumpkins and foo fighters the next "La BAMA" pops up. Seriously, how did that song even get selected. When I can think of hundreds of other songs that would fix GH better. Somehow, I feel like this is some scheme to get me to use the DLC and pay for more of the kind of music I like to see on these games. For every song I like there are two to three that I could care less about. That is something I could never say or wanted to say about a GH game.
I am happy to have a new guitar hero, but overall I'm disappointed on how it panned out.
I was thinking about maybe picking up Rock Band 2, but after glancing at the track list and seeing a handful of the same songs that this game has i don't think i'll be doing that either.
Works With Rockband Generation One Guitars and Drums October 29, 2008 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
The other reviewers tell you everything you need to know about the game. It's a lot of fun. I couldn't find a clear answer before buying it to whether or not my rock band guitar and drums would work with it. Thus, the point of this review is to let you know that YES they will work. You don't have to buy a whole new set of equipment. This isn't meant to discourage you from buying them if that's what you want. I'm just letting you know you don't have to if you own the first generation or Rock Band equipment. I, personally, just don't have the space to house two drums sets. I wouldn't have bought the game if the controllers weren't compatible for that reason. My only small complaint is that some of the songs on Rockband 2 and GH WT overlap but there's enough songs that don't (Hotel California and Purple Haze) that it's worth buying both.
Silky smooth sound/gameplay, graphics could be better October 27, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The new guitar, cel shaded notes, song list, and touch pad are phenomenal. Playing along with the original songs and not covers is worth the price of admission alone, and AT LAST we get a freestyle session/music studio. You can jump right in after the tutorials with the music studio, but the GHMIX and its capablities look to take a bit more practice, both provide serious ability to improvise and try to make your own covers/originals and the open mic freestyle ability allows for vocals but w/out recording capabilities,(unless you output to your own recording device.) Being able to record keyboard melodies for in game play makes up for this. The NEW Beginner mode is great for kids as it offers a rhythm only track (with no notes to hit), I played it through a few songs and it is actually kind of fun, and my son loves it and all the different keyboard sounds in the studio as well. The guitar can wobble(not side to side like GHIIIS but up and down) however the old folded piece of paper trick works great and stabilizes it completely. Also the 3 to 6 song career playlists offer no break unless you fail or pause and quit, so you tend to play through the whole set, which can lead to repetitive motion injury (like I am feeling now, after about 20+ hours with this game.) I can find little to fault as everything works as promised, even the touch pad which takes a bit of practice starts feeling like second nature over time. The evolution of this series is looking awesome guitarwise. Finally that plastic GH guitar in the corner is an actual instrument of sorts.
