2 out of 5 stars The Most Uncomfortable Headset Ever!!!!   November 25, 2008

This headset feals way to big to fit in your ear comfortably. It is also difficult to turn on and off because you must hold down the button for about 10-15 seconds before it will turn on or off. Also the only way you can charge your headset is to have it plugged in via USB cord to your PS3 while it is turned on. My last headset just plugged into the wall and that made much more since.

Pro's
On screen display to tell you if headset is on or off and whether on mute or not

Sound is clear

Works for at least 8 hours on a charge

Includes a stand to charge your headset on

Difficult to turn on and off

Must leave PS3 on to charge headset

5 out of 5 stars An Essential Part of Your PS3 Experience   November 25, 2008

This headset comes bundled with SOCOM: Confrontation, and it is everything that game is not. The headset is simple, stable, it sounds great, fits well, lasts a LONG time on batteries, works seamlessly with the PS3, and can take some punishment. (I accidentally dropped it about six feet onto a hardwood floor. Didn't miss a beat.)

When I first started using it, other players began saying things like: "What headset are you using? You sound good as h**l!" It came in handy when playing LittleBigPlanet, it works in the Home beta, and future PS3 titles will benefit tremendously from it. SOCOM or not, this is a great device.

5 out of 5 stars Nice Headset   November 24, 2008

I havent used any other bluetooth headsets for my PS3 but I have heard plenty of them in use while playing online games. This headset delivers your voice in a clear and clean tone and is suprisingly comfortable to wear. Everyone always asks me what headset I am using because it sounds so good. Definitely worth a purchase if you dont have a headset already or if you are looking for an affordable upgrade to the current one you are using. You can also use this with your bluetooth capable cell phone as well.

5 out of 5 stars An all around good Bluetooth, gamer or not.   November 24, 2008

Since Bluetooth headsets became required by law for motorists, it stopped being a question of 'if' I get one, but 'which one' will I get. The PS3 Bluetooth headset fit the bills for design, function, and price.

The physical design of the headset is a clean & sublime. The simple rectangular shape and basic black color follows nothing 'trendy' so I don't think it'll ever go out of style. The button locations are logically placed for easy operation. A common problem I've had with other headsets was that they often got to be uncomfortable, if not painful, after extended periods of time on my ear. The PS3 headset does not suffer such a flaw. It rests nicely on my ear & has just enough weight to it to be comfortable while still keeping me aware that I am still wearing it.

The sound quality at least matches that of any other high end Bluetooth model available today. I'm not entirely certain if the headset utilizes the noise cancellation technology (some product descriptions say it does, others do not), but with the ear piece that protrudes slightly & comfortably into the ear, background noise has been little to no problem for me. The initial linking to the PS3 or my phone was easy, but switching back and forth can be a mild chore from time to time. The included recharging stand is as easy to use as the headset, but I wish it came with a longer USB cable as it doesn't tuck away enough from the front of the PS3 console to keep my shelf from looking cluttered.

Normally the headset can be purchased from retail stores for about $50, but can be purchased from Amazon for only $40. For me, a $10 difference is significant. Aside from that, I think I could have purchased it for $50 and still would have been happy with it.

Overall, the only detractors were the length of the provided USB cable and the sometimes difficult connecting to my cell phone, but its still a great product for your money. I have no problem recommending it to PS3 gamers or to anyone shopping for a good, inexpensive, high quality, Bluetooth headset.

1 out of 5 stars Awful performance and overpriced! Don't be fooled!   November 20, 2008

I bought the version of SOCOM that came with this headset (mediocre game packaged with a sub-par product) and found myself horribly disappointed.

What's good? Well, it syncs easily with the PS3. Just plug it into PS3 with the USB cable. And there's that nifty charge cradle.

What's bad? Everything that matters. It's uncomfortable. The back edge of the considerably large earpiece rubs against the inside of your ear when adjusting and it has a sharp edge, leading to some painful scratching. I have moderately sized ears and it took awhile each time to get into a comfortable position, but this is simply unacceptable compared to the plethora of comfortable BT headsets out there (including smaller, lighter-weight units from Jabra).

The performance, both in-game and with phone calls, is stunningly bad. I don't know about Sony's claimed noise-canceling feature, but those on the other end of calls said they had a hard time hearing me even when there was little ambient noise. Sound was always garbled in static and tinny, comparable to the bottom-rung BT headsets out there.

Worth $40? Absolutely not. And given that SOCOM is likewise disappointing (just check out the reviews), I wouldn't suggest that bundle either. It's not even worth $10.

Buy a real BT headset. I recommend Jawbone; worth the extra money over this POS.
