New to the Pro Evolution Soccer series is an exclusive UEFA Champions League license. The UEFA Champions League is Europe's greatest club competition, and the license means the game will have all the elements and attributes of the Champion League Competition. The Ligue 1 Orange and Eredivisie are both fully licensed, and the England League (Premier League), Italian League (Serie A) and Spanish League (La Liga) are partially licensed. Manchester United and Liverpool are the licensed English clubs in Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. The UEFA Champions League mode is given a new television-style presentation, where you get dramatic camera angles on replays, videos, and banner ads. Along with the official team names, upgraded graphics, and more life-like player movements, others watching you play might mistake the video game for an actual game on TV. The new Become a Legend mode lets you create a player from scratch and focus on the individual player rather than a team. The game lets you customize the player down to the smallest detail, including his free kick run-up and celebration routine. If you use a supported camera, you can even put your face on the player and create team emblems. After you've created your character, the more your play, the more he improves. After you have a legend you're satisfied with, you can export him to an online legends game with four other players, where you team up and play against computer teams. Realistic Ball Movement
Balls now move around more realistically thanks to adjustments for friction, air resistance, backspin, and more. This allows for new strategies and techniques such as lifting balls over defenders legs and doing tee shots. Improvements have also been made in passing and the reactions of your teammates. In addition to the Legend online mode, you can also challenge your friend to a 1-on-1 match. If your friends aren't online, there is also a quickmatch option that pairs you to a random online player.  Excellent Gameplay December 2, 2008
superb, better than PES 2008, didnt try fifa yet but i stop buying EA games 5-6 years ago.
online is sometimes lag, but i guess it not because off the game, the soccer player mostly from outside US. i assume this because sometimes they chatting with spanish, latin languages. also sometimes they addd me as friend and he/she mentioned that him/her from uruguay.
anyway it very fun game.
Pleasantly Enjoyable December 1, 2008
I have both the Xbox 360 and PS3. I was able to download both demos via Xbox live. Both demos were quite bad, to be honest. But I thought Fifa's demo was a little bit more polished. I was quite disappointed with Pro Evo's demo. So I made up my mind not to buy either this year and keep playing my PES5.
When both games released, I played both of them. I felt that Fifa was quite similar to the demo but Pro Evo was much more polished now and I was pleasantly surprised how much more I'm enjoying it. The "Be a Legend" mode is extremely fun. Btw, I bought the PS3 version because I read that there are some glitches in the Xbox version.

Playing PES series since 1998, this PES 2009 is the best soccer title ever made on planet earth, while some like to point FIFA 09 for the "photorealistic" images, gameplay and true soccer physics are inside PES 2009 pack.
On PES 2009 we have the usual and awesome gameplay now with enhanced ball physics, 3D Kinetic motion engine, good looking graphics and last but not the least the incredible A.I., A.I. very smart and giving large hours of fun for beginners or professional PES players.
Licenses aren't problem because the missing team licenses can be fixed with the great Option Files for PS3 (Edit Data file), we just need to copy and it's done, names, logos, kits all good and official.
Offline mode is endless with all leagues, Master League and now the Legends modes. ONLINE mode isn't perfect yet but we can play very good now, nothing we can compare with last year's version.
This is a true soccer game any player shouldn't miss, great and unbiased reviews about PES and FIFA can also be found on [...] site.
Great Game but Online Needs Improvement November 24, 2008

Let me say that Im impressed by the improvements made to the Game, maybe it needs more work but if you compare it against PES 2008. Its way better.
The Online its terrible and for a sport-game related lags during online play is a nightmare. The game on its own its great, Champions League is a nice addition. Remove the Online lag and you will have a great experience but for people like me the fun is in the online matches.

Trust me this time. This PES version on 2009 is way way better than the previous years. The gameplay is awesome, which will make you find it difficult to quit playing. There so many game modes (exhibition, champions league, master league, network, be a legend). The customization level is hight were you can import players looks, names, jerseys, boots, etc.
The game have TWO negatives which are not a big deal (for me at least): 1) License: not all leagues appear with full license like jerseys, stadiums, players names. But this can be easily customized, imported, and/or updated. 2) Lagging play in online mode: you may experience some lag issues when playing with users not close to the your region. So the best deal is to choose whom to play with and everything will be just fine.
I would really recommend this PES 2009 for all football fans (Soccer fans in the US). Do not miss it!
