An entertaining hidden object game December 1, 2008 After making several adventure games from Agatha Christie novels, The Adventure Company has switched things up and made a hidden object game out of "Death on the Nile." The result is a surprisingly fun little game.
In each round, players inspect three or four rooms at a time, trying to find a list of hidden objects. Most of the items are random, but some are clues which contribute to the murder mystery. Players can also question witnesses for more information, and in between each round is a little (very easy) puzzle that provides you with some kind of evidence - you may have to re-create a letter, for example, or test an unknown liquid.
Overall, this game is a lot of fun. Nearly all of the objects are reasonably disguised. I might not have found them all, but when I used the hint feature, my reaction was generally, "Oh, I should have caught that." The plot is a somewhat stripped-down version of Christie's novel; most of the subplots are gone, but it will probably entertain people who aren't familiar with the story. I particularly like the way that the objects in each person's room helped define their character - Colonel Race, for instance, has a hunting theme in his room, while Miss Bowers has a lot of medical objects. The music was also really well done, although the game probably could have used more variety.
If I have one complaint about this game, it's that it is really a bit short, considering the price tag. The game was originally available as a download, and it shows: there is no spoken dialogue (just subtitles), very little animation, and only 12 game levels. It seems like $20 is a bit much to pay for that. Still, if you like Agatha Christie and/or hidden object games, this is a great way to spend an afternoon.
Please don't call this Agatha Chrsitie December 1, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I made the mistake of thinking this was the next installment of the Agatha Christie murder mystery series. Sadly, it was not. It's great if you think hidden object mystery games, but the producers shouldn't be so misleading. Don't purchase if you're hoping for a great game.
Good Hidden Object Game, Too Bad It's A Hidden Object Game November 13, 2008 As far as hidden object games go, this one is pretty good; however, I was disappointed that The Adventure Company chose to use this format for its 4th release. Be advised that you can find this exact game on many websites to download, such as [...] or Yahoo, and that it has been out for several months on the internet so don't buy a second copy of it.
Another disadvantage of the hidden object format is that it's really easy to ignore the story (although the "solution" to DOTN is fairly well known) so there isn't much motivation to interview the characters or complete the bonus rounds.
If you haven't tried any other Agatha Christie games, I would recommend "Evil Under the Sun" instead, where you actually are trying to solve the mystery and act as Hercule Poirot himself.
Fux and relaxing October 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've played this about 6 times now but I do skip the puzzle area between the find the object levels. I find it very relaxing just looking at a pretty picture and finding objects. Nice change from being on edge and stressed playing other types of games.
Previously purchased this game as a download on Yahoo Games October 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was a fun game to play when I purchased it and downloaded it from Yahoo Games. I thought the name sounded familiar but I thought it was similiar to the previous Agatha Christie games such as "And Then There Were None", "Evil Under The Sun" and "Murder on the Orient Express." If you like looking for hidden objects and solving other neat puzzles, then you will enjoy this game. I will give this copy to my neighbor to enjoy.
